When I walked in the door, the very first thing my Daddy said was,
“Boy, you been out drinking? You’re eyes are mighty red.
Or maybe you been out with your friends smoking that Mary Jane
But the way that you been snorting, I’d bet it was cocaine.”
And I said “Hey! That ain’t the way it is!” and I proceeded to state my case
Then I coughed and sneezed and wheezed and wiped the tears off of my face

“I got Hay Fever.
It’s itchin’ my eyes and cloggin’ up my nose.
My voice ain’t very clear. Speak up or I won’t hear
‘Cause it’s sneezin’ time out there where the pollen blows.”

Well I went to see my girl friend late one August night
She took one look at me and said, “Boy you’re a hell of a sight.
I could tell that you were comin’ ‘cause your nose gives off a glow.
Now whatever you got, I don’t want so I think you better go.
And don’t be comin’ ‘round here spreadin’ some kinda strange disease.”
But whenever I tried to explain to her, all I could do was sneeze.

‘Cause I got Hay Fever.
It’s itchin’ my eyes and cloggin’ up my nose.
My voice ain’t very clear, speak up or I won’t hear.
‘Cause it’s sneezin’ time out there where the pollen blows.

Now I got sprays and mists by the gallons to treat my allergies
About a ton of decongestants and a mile of antihistamines
I got drops for my itchy eyes and tissues for when I blow
You know once I even got a steroid shot, right here on the end of my nose!
Now I take ‘em all together just like my doctor says
But I can hardly function ‘cause I’m always in a daze.

And I got Hay Fever
It’s itchin’ my eyes and cloggin’ up my nose
My voice ain’t very clear, speak up or I won’t hear
“Cause it’s sneezin’ time out there where the pollen blows.
Yes I got Hay Fever
It’s itchin’ my nose and cloggin’ up my head
Every time I go outside I think I’m gonna die
So I just turn around and go back to bed.
